Casa Caralinde is our sweet little "home away from home"
in the beautiful Riviera Maya.
We've spent many wonderful times there with friends and family.

How it began: While researching a family trip in early 2008, we came upon these homes for sale in Chemuyil Mexico. We had no intention of purchasing a home in Mexico, but enticed by the beauty of the area, we decided it would be a nice place to spend winters when we retire. We sent a deposit, and drove out to take a look at the neighborhood during our March 2008 trip to Akumal ... we were hooked. The subdivision had been built about six years prior as housing for workers, and had basically sat empty. The homes were pretty sad looking, but we knew they had potential.
Our cozy casa is located in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, on the beautiful Riviera Maya. It is about 75 minutes south of Cancun. Far away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, yet close to the quiet resort towns of Akumal and Tulum, and within walking distance to Xcacel Beach.
We've come a long way: From our first glimpse of the casa, which was a photo sent via e-mail, (shown below) we were in love. Chan Chemuyil is a neighborhood in transition. It started out as rows of cookie-cutter cement boxes, but has blossomed into a vibrant community. The homes were quickly snapped up by people with vision and a sense of adventure. As owners have added patios, gardens, walls, and a myriad of paint colors each home now parades it's uniqueness. Our Homeowners Club maintains the common areas which includes two lush cenotes.
Chan Chemuyil has about 220 homes, most of which are vacation homes. We love the friendly homeowners and vacationers in the neighborhood who share our enthusiasm for "off the beaten path" travel and adventure. This is truly our little slice of paradise!
The Pueblo of Chemuyil: The Pueblo of Chemuyil is adjacent to the neighborhood. It is about a 15-20 minute walk, or quick drive. The Pueblo is a great place to enjoy dinners out, pick up groceries or BBQ chicken for lunch (maybe some street tamales if we're lucky), or stop by the laundry, bakery, tortilla factory, or our favorite little fruit stand. It is lively at night and the people are wonderful and friendly.
